3d printing - How is it going to work?

Anything Altergaze related: games, VR projects and 3D printing,

by alianmac » 20 Oct 2014, 20:00

Hi,

I have joined up because I am intending to 3d print Altergaze frames.

I wondered how it was all thing to work.

At this stage many questions are:

1) When and how do I get to print a set of frames?

2) what will I be able to do once I have printed a set of frames? By that I mean what softwares is available to test of/ demonstrate the software?

Hi,

We will make a section on our website dealing with all questions related to becoming a manufacturer and also offering the option to sign up for it. Should be up and running in about 1 week time.

Any thoughts on eventually "casting" the designs so it could be injection molded? I've been seeing discussions about 3D printed materials warping over time.

For now, our focus is on keeping this 3D printable. If it turns out that there is a HUGE demand for Altergaze (over 50.000 per month) we might, but for the numbers that we are hopping to achieve (20.000 new users in the next 6-12 months) there is no point.

500 3D printers can easily produce 15.000 headsets in less than 1 month, and they will be 15.000 unique headsets :)

On the 3D printing front, how are the kick-starter orders going? Did you ever get those lenses?

Yes we did! Kickstarter models (the limited edition) have all been dispatched. The next batch (the £75, £100 and £110) will go out in January / February. And then we will be focusing on the 3D printing platform. Aiming to get it up and running by early March

Makes me sad to hear that :(

Over the last few months we've learned how difficult and complex manufacture hardware is. A lot of times the delays are not even your fault. But hopefully all the delays the guys from RigitBot are facing are in order to make a better product.

Still waiting for the lenses (and nuts&bolts?) and for the web platform to get started with 3d printing stuff
If the web platform is not ready yet why not send the lenses and a stl file set to get started.

The lenses are paid for and the design is already there so no extra money is needed for this...

Hope we'll hear from you guys soon..

cheers
