alternatives to threaded nut & bolt

Anything Altergaze related: games, VR projects and 3D printing,

Hi All... Just wondering if there are other alternatives to securing the layers together other than with nuts & bolts.. eg. a clamp or torsion spring arrangement...

Why.. design & aesthetics, some customers might like a more integrated form rather than nuts & bolts..

Any thoughts on this ?

I would love something other then bolts, but bolts are functional and you can easily take them apart. Now something could be 3D printed and act like a clip, but I don't know how strong it would be. What I really want to see at some point is a VR headset that folds flat and snaps together, so I could keep it in my brief case or backpack.

We did look at alternatives without bolts. But as SlashAndBurn said: they are practical for easy changing parts, cleaning lenses and for adjusting the focal point. As soon as 'this version' of Altergaze is setup and working for 3D printer owners we will look at different designs.

Keep in mind that this is version 1 of Altergaze. The objective is for this version is to make it make it easy to print and assemble. A product that even a 12 year old kid can put together.

Also, as 3D printers evolve (and they are moving really fast) there will be a lot more options.

I nearly forgot, but how does the rear of the Altergaze feel, the part that wraps around you eyes. Is that made from the same material as the rest of the unit? How hard would it be to add padding to where your nose would rest. The last question, is because I just got a cardboard for $10 off amazon and wearing it with straps was unbearable until I added a round piece of packing material to make it less painful.
